Although we at Rare organise and cater for countless amazing events, every now and then there is a party that makes you stop in your tracks. Birthday girl Sarah Davies’ phenomenal fortieth was one of those parties.
Having toyed with the idea of a cookie–cutter corporate-style meal and drinks in a well-known Chelsea eatery, Sarah opted to get us on board to help create a night of dinner and dancing like no other.
Our venue hunt took us to the Perch in Camberwell.
A sister venue to Rare favourites the Roost, Dalston Heights and One Friendly Place, The Perch provided the perfect setting for all the little touches that made Sarah’s night so special. The large white dining room was a perfect backdrop for a forest effect of golden leaf gobos reflected on walls that were lined with LED Silver Birches.
The guests were treated to all manner of performances, not just from soul singer Cheryl Lucas who rocked the latter part of the evening under the golden light of the disco ball, but from Sarah herself and her a cappella singing group. Balancing act Sally Miller threw some unbelievable shapes as the wine was poured and silhouette artist Sarah Goddard circulated creating instant keepsakes for the guests. Photographer Sam Barker captured the evening.
Rare served up delicious canapés and a three course meal of Devon crab claw with lovage jelly & sous vide watermelon, venison loin, roast squash & millet with wilted nasturtium leaf to follow and Rare’s special take on egg and soldiers to indulge for pudding. Our mixologist shook up some seasonal fig “clementinis” for the post-dinner cocktail hour.
Some beautiful toasts to and by the birthday girl were a testament to just what a woman she is. The party really captured the spirit of this special host, and just like her party Sarah has got it all!
